THE TRI-BORDER AREA: A TERROR TRIANGLE. PART ONE

Under the threat of global terrorist reach, the Tri Border Area (TBA), where the borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay converge, persist as a sort of a no mans land. The Hizballah presence in the TBA, is believed to use the ground as key locale for raising and laundering money. But TBA, is not a small converge border point.It embrace a large corridor with several focal points connected with TBA.Many people linked to Hizballah and others terrorist groups were captured in the TBA and vecinity.
Sobhi Mahmud Faiad, arrested in 1998 by paraguayan police, was believed to be the main link between the iranian embassy in Brazilia and the Hizballah structure in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay. After his released, Faiad sent 25.000 dollars to a bank account in New York City. A week before 9/11, he realized another money transfer. Faiad was captured again in november of 2001.
Assad Ahmad Bakarat, who is considered Hizballah principal TBA leader, transfered more than half million dollars to Canada, Chile and United States, including 254.000 dollars to Lebanon. Barakat residence was in Foz do Iguazu, Brazil, but he did his activities in Ciudad del Este.
Shortly after the 9/11 attack on America, in a video broadcasted by Al Jazeera, the egiptian Ayman Al Zawahiri,number two of Al Qaeda, came out talking with a southamerican map. Part of the map, showed the argentinian central and north region including TBA.
